When we were building our home I had a vision of course. Every rooms finishes I had planned out. I even had the wallpaper for the dining room and the master bedroom ceiling in my possession long before we ever broke ground. I had a plan! My husband’s plan however- quite different. In an effort to save money I volunteered (more like, if you want it, you have to do it…and I wanted it!) to do all the tiling. I decided to add a little of my own, unique flair to the master bathroom. I call it, “A River Runs Through It”. I love the way it turned out.

I started with the “River.” I found these great tiles at a discount tile shop and fell in love.

I penciled in the basic shape for the river and laid the tile on a diagonal.

Once I got the river done I simply smashed a neutral tile and began filling in the edges. This is the same tile I used on the walls.

My husband hated it at first. He was sure he’d cut his feet walking on it. No blood loss yet!

Here’s the finished product. If I had it to do over again I think I’d go crazy and run it up the wall too vs. dying into the cabinet. That might have pushed my hubby right over the edge.
