We found this old desk sitting alone on the side of the road. It was in rough shape. It had been chewed on, taped, scratched, dented and dinged. It looked like it had been sitting outside for awhile. Obviously it was perfect! We tossed it into the back of the van and took it home.
It sat in our garage for 6 months before I could find the time to give it the attention it needed. Besides a really good cleaning, it needed some good sanding, filler, and minor repairs.
Once all of that was complete, I set up my spray shelter, and sprayed the desk and drawers with “Carbon” chalky finish paint from DecoArt. (affiliate link)
I used chalkboard paint on the smooth veneer top of the desk. The desktop had the least amount of damage to begin with, and the veneer was in great shape. the smooth surface made a fantastic chalkboard!
I added wrapping paper and hardware to the drawer fronts to give it some character and some color!
I really love the functional and fun chalkboard desktop! For more information and more photos you can visit my blog through the link below!
