I love old-fashioned recipe and this cake is nothing less than charming. The streusel on the top makes the moist cake underneath come alive. Plus, the middle of the cake is filled with gooey apples and cinnamon sugar. Talk about a love fest of ingredients! I make this cake for breakfast get-togethers quite a bit. It’s filling, sweet, and goes perfectly with coffee or tea. Plus, it’s easy to throw together on the fly.
As far as apple selection goes, I tend to use what I have on hand, but Granny Smith seems to work best in a cake recipe like this. You get the stableness of a firmer apple paired with a tart and sweet flavor all at the same time. Delicious!

This recipe is a for a simple cinnamon streusel apple cake but sometimes it’s the simple things in life that are the greatest. I love this cake because the center is an ooey gooey mess of apple sweetness kissed with the essence of cinnamon. The sour cream in this recipe gives the cake a kick of zippy flavor that I absolutely love. I think this cake is a great addition to my morning coffee ritual. Very flavorful and moist.
Don’t let the long list of ingredients scare you…this cake is very easy to make and you’ll be so glad you have a slice of it sitting on a plate before you. Trust me. Enjoy!
