Here’s everything you need for this moist and sweet apple cake. Tart apples work best for cooking, so we recommend using Cortland, Rome Beauty, Braeburn, Northern Spy or Granny Smith.
Let’s Get Baking…
Ingredients To Gather:
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups shredded peeled apples (about 2 medium apples)
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 quart vanilla or cinnamon ice cream
Directions To Follow:
Start by heating the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and then using baking spray with flour to coat a 9-inch round baking pan. Next, use an electric mixer to beat butter and sugar on medium speed. Beat until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add eggs to the mixture one at a time, beating each one in. Next, add the vanilla, flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt, followed by the apples and walnuts. Stir in to what you’ve already mixed, and then pour into the cake pan. Bake for between 40 and 45 minutes or until you insert a toothpick into the center of the cake and it comes out clean. When it’s done, let it cool for 10 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack and let it cool for 10 more minutes.
Finished!
This decadent apple cake goes well with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, but we also recommend lightly dusting it with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness. This cake is the perfect dessert but also goes well with a hot cup of tea for an elegant snack.
Happy Baking & Enjoy!
