This method for properly seasoning a cast iron pan involves cooking in it and then cleaning it. However, you should avoid washing the pan with soap as this will wash away all the seasoning that you just accomplished. It is also important not to let your cast iron pan drip dry because this build up of water will cause the pan to rust.

 Let’s Get Started!

The Tools You Will Need:

  • Cast Iron Pan

  • Scrub Brush

  • Brillo pad if needed
  • Paper Towels

  • Tongs

The Ingredients to Gather:

  • Bacon

  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vegetable oil

The Step by Step Directions To Follow:

  1. Get a Cast Iron Pan.

  2. Cook in it. Season it fast by cooking a large amount of bacon. Then eat the bacon. (the best part in my opinion)

  3. Wash pan with hot water and a scrub brush (do not use soap or it will wash away the seasoning you just put on the pan)

  4. Immediately dry with a towel. (Avoid drip drying your pan because any left over water will cause the pan to rust) If you do happen to see any rust, use a Brillo pad to scrape off the rust then rinse and dry it immediately.

  1. Place your cast iron back onto your stove and heat it up to medium heat. Pour in about 1- 1 1/2 teaspoons of vegetable oil, lard, Crisco, Olive oil or another food based oil into the bottom of the heated pan. Take a wad of paper towels and some tongs and wipe the oil all around the cooking surfaces of the pan so it’s evenly coated.

  2. Turn off the heat and let the pan come back down to room temperature.

Finished!

This tip for seasoning a cast iron pan is so easy and fun, you will want to buy more pans just so you can do it over and over again! Have you tried this tip to season your cast iron pans yet?
