Of all the things in our pantry we love using for home remedies, there isn’t one we love quite as much as apple cider vinegar. There are just so many different uses for it, and today we learned about another one to add to the list: arthritis relief! Yes, there are actually multiple ways you can use apple cider vinegar as a natural way to help relieve the pain of your arthritis. Check with your doctor to make sure these home remedies are OK for you to try, then read on to learn our five favorite ways of using this all-star product.
1- Joint Soak And Topical Solution
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar
- 6 cups warm water
DIRECTIONS
- In a bowl or basin large enough for your joints with arthritis, mix the apple cider vinegar and warm water.
- Submerge your painful joints. Stay submerged and soak for at least 30 minutes.
You can use this remedy whenever you’re experiencing pain from your arthritis.
2- Whole Body Bath
Sometimes, soaking just your painful joints isn’t enough. When you need all-over, whole-body relief, turn to an apple cider vinegar bath.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 to 2 cups apple cider vinegar
- 1 bathtub full of water
DIRECTIONS
- Run a hot bath, and pour in the apple cider vinegar.
- Soak for 30 to 35 minutes.
- While you soak, massage your entire body for relief. Start with your feet, then work your way up each of your legs, one at a time. Then move on to your torso, arms and neck, in that order. Finish by lightly stroking your face. Be careful not to pull on your skin, especially not in a downward direction!
- Dry off, and perform another self massage. Remember to include an ear rub as part of that massage. It might feel silly, but a good ear rub is a form of reflexology, which helps to release endorphins and increase overall relaxation.
You can take an apple cider vinegar bath regularly to help relieve your pain.
3- Poultice
A poultice is a traditional way to apply concentrated pressure and medication to treat inflammation and aches and pains. It’s an ideal way to apply the power of apple cider vinegar to the parts of your body that really need it!
INGREDIENTS
- 1½ cups water
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- Clean washcloth
- Clean, dry towel
DIRECTIONS
- In a small saucepan, heat the water and vinegar over low-to-medium heat, until the mixture is hot to the touch but comfortably so. Do not boil it or let it get anywhere near boiling temperature!
- Soak the clean washcloth in the mixture. Wring it out to remove any excess liquid and prevent dripping.
- Place the soaked washcloth on the joint with arthritis. Wrap the joint and cloth with the dry towel to help retain the heat and to help hold the washcloth in place.
- Leave the washcloth on for 10 to 15 minutes.
- After 10 to 15 minutes, or after the washcloth has cooled, repeat steps 2 through 4 and reapply to your joint.
You can reapply as often as you need, and repeat the whole process as often as you wish and/or have pain.
