Stuffed cabbage was a dish that my Grandma used to bring to every single event that we ever had. Even if she wasn’t asked to bring a dish, she would always show up with a big ol’ pan of the yummy stuff. Everyone loved it, so there were never any complaints. Quite frankly, you were lucky if you got in when there was more than just a few of us. She never increased her recipe, just brought the one pan, no matter the crowd size. That was Grandma though, and we absolutely loved her for it.
I tried making stuffed cabbage a few times, and it just wasn’t my thing. It was more work than what I wanted to do in the kitchen. I missed that flavor though. One day, I stumbled upon this recipe on Spend With Pennies for unstuffed cabbage casserole. Excuse me?
It was amazingly simple to put together, and the flavor was just as good as what I remember Grandma’s to be. I make this for my family all the time, and take it to all our events. Proudly following in Grandma’s foot steps is all.
When I know that I am going to be short on time for dinner, I will put this casserole together and toss it in the fridge either in the morning or the night before. Then, before it’s time to eat, I will pull it out and let it warm up to room temperature before popping it in the oven. That way, I can work on other things that I need to get done around the house instead of standing in the kitchen trying to rush through the meal. Check out what they are saying about this recipe over at Spend With Pennies:
“I’m so glad I have a quicker version of this age old favorite that still delivers all the flavor I expect from the original dish!”
You can get the incredible taste of cabbage rolls without all the hard work!
