How To Make Homemade Mozzarella Sticks

Prep time:3 mins
Cook time:3 mins
Total time:6 mins
Experience the Airfyer wow factor by learning how to make homemade mozzarella sticks. A family favourite in our household with delicious buffalo mozzarella and a healthy crispy coating.
Ingredients

Airfryer

Blender

Airfryer Baking Pan

100g (7oz) Mozzarella

70g (2.5oz) Gluten Free Oats

1 Medium Egg

2Tbsp Italian Seasoning

1Tbsp Garlic Powder

1Tsp Basil

Salt & Pepper

Instructions
  1. In a blender place all the seasonings and the gluten free oats and blend for about 5 seconds or until it is like coarse breadcrumbs.
  2. Using some kitchen towel or a dry clean tea towel pat dry the mozzarella to remove any excess liquid.
  3. Season the mozzarella in salt and pepper (from above) and cut into mozzarella stick pieces.
  4. Beat the egg and place in a small dish.
  5. Place the blender ingredients into a larger mixing dish.
  6. Toss the mozzarella sticks in the oats, then the egg and then back in the oats.
  7. Place them in the baking pan inside of your Airfryer. Cook for 3 minutes at 180c (350F).
  8. Serve immediately with some ketchup.
Notes
If you’re on Slimming World then it is 2 healthy extra A and 2 healthy extra B for the oats and the mozzarella. But this is for all 8 mozzarella sticks, so if you are having 4 (the same portion you would have at Burger King) then it works out at 1 of each healthy extras.

I always season my food from above with salt and pepper. It helps give you a good overall coating.

For shapes to slice it into, I find that if you think of the shape for a potato when you are doing potato wedges, then that is ideal.

Please note that mozzarella is often purchased in water, therefore it carries a lot of liquid so make sure it is well drained before you cook with it.

The weights for the cheese is based on the cheese out of water, so quite often 150g pack works out at 100g when all liquid has been removed.

We found that 3 minutes was the perfect amount of time. Any longer and you end up with a cheese bomb in your Airfryer (yes really!) and any less and it has that horrible uncooked mozzarella flavour.
