How to Turn a Pallet into a Planter in Less Than 2 Hours

How to Turn a Pallet into a Planter in Less Than 2 Hours

Whether you’re a professional or a totally beginning gardener, a raised bed can be your best friend, helping you to plant, weed, water and harvest your fruits and veggies much more easily than typical in-ground gardening. They can also produce higher yields, and we don’t think there’s anything better than a garden bursting with produce— especially when that produce is strawberries! If you’re always looking for new gardening ideas, you’ve probably seen ideas for strawberry-planting that involve using old pallets. Lovely Greens saw them too, but she decided to take the idea one step forward by turning that pallet into a raised planter.

How great does that planter look? Your plants would be so happy growing in it, especially if you use it to grow your own strawberries. Do you think you’ll give it a try yourself? If you do, remember:

Key Tips

  • Only use pallets that have been heat treated, not chemically treated. All pallets must be stamped twice with information about how it was made. Chemically-treated pallets will have the stamp “MB” for methyl bromide, the pesticide used in chemical treatments.
  • A steel splitting wedge and iron mallet aren’t required to make this project, but they will make your life a lot easier!
  • If you want a deeper planter, you can also remove the single plank from the backside in step 2 of the process.
  • Help keep the soil in the planter by lining the bottom of the finished project with scraps of wire and landscaping fabric.

Bonus: it only takes two hours! Watch  the VIDEO in the NEXT PAGE and learn how you can do it too!
