My knife block was so plain and had zero personality. I need something fun and inspiring to look at everyday if it’s going to sit on my counter. It has a great blank canvas to do just about anything with.

I started by lightly sanding the block so paint would adhere to it. A chalk paint would be a good option since it sticks to just about anything. Paint a couple coats on all sides, but not necessarily in the slots. I chose to leave those unpainted so it wouldn’t be rubbed off when knives go in and out.

Go to your local craft store to pick out your stencil. I used my stencil upside down to hopefully make it unique. Martha Stewart sells a metallic gray paint that’s great for stenciling.

Use a small stenciling sponge to apply the paint. And that’s it! Enjoy your refreshed knife block! Check out my blog for a full tutorial!
