Divina was the youngest in a family of seven. She has two older sisters and two older brothers. Divina was the type who never demanded anything. She was always content with what she has. Despite them being well off, she never really flaunted their wealth, which was why she became a member of our small caboodle in high school. Most of my high school friends were my childhood friends, and she was one of those whom we just met in high school. There was only one thing that Divina asked for all the time. And it was for her mother to make her her favorite mocha cake.
Oh, my goodness. I couldn’t blame her! It was a recipe from her maternal grandmother and her mother always made it for their birthdays. Every year, I was able to taste a slice because I was always invited. Her mom’s mocha cake melted in the mouth. It also has the best mocha cake icing I have ever tasted.
It was sweet, but there was a strong hint of bitterness from the coffee that just balanced the taste. Since I haven’t heard from Divina for years, I searched a recipe that tasted similar to her mom’s mocha cake. And this is what I found.
