The upper cabinets, however, were more challenging. I chose pure white initially and hated it! It was too stark!! I will tell you that the little tiny sample pictures on the box do not faithfully represent the colors. I think Rustoleum should have samples of the colors that customers can take home and see if they like it in their home. I called customer service again and they said since it was pure white I could go back to where I bought the kit and have them change the color. I chose linen white and love it.
After I put the top coat on, however, I started to see a yellowish color show up. I called customer service yet again. This is when I became a Rustoleum customer for life!!! The man on the phone told me that it sounded like my cabinets have tannin in them which caused the discoloration. I haven’t seen any issues in the darker lower cabinets. Only the white ones. He told me they would refund my money for the white kit, buy me a new kit, and also buy me the oil based primer I would need to start over with. The primer would protect from the tannin stain coming through the pretty white paint. So I painted the primer overall I had done and then the linen over that once again…and then top coat…again. It was more work, but now they are beautiful and Rustoleum shines as the first-rate company in my eyes!
